newsWelcome to our new website! We were so excited about getting it, we wanted to put it up right away. We are not quite finished everything, so please be patient with us as we tweak a few things. |
Know Love, Know Power 2008This retreat and its integral concert at the Maryland Theatre are designed to encourage communication between parents/guardians and their children. Adults and children age 10 and over are encouraged to attend both the retreat and the concert to get the greatest benefit from the experience. The first day of the retreat will address issues dealing with the puzzles of relationships and rights of passage. Published author and noted local psychologist Dr. James K. Childerston will lead interactive discussions on love, decision-making, relationships, and methods of more effective parent-teen communication regarding life choices. An innovative approach utilizing music, dance and drama with professional actors will stimulate interaction between parents and youth, encouraging more comfort and openness in addressing the difficult issues faced in everyday life. The concert will be entertaining, fabulous and fun. Written by members of ACT’s Creative Arts Team with input from prominent local leaders, it features all-original songs and performances by local talent. It is also designed to raise questions for the adults, teens and tweens who attend. The second day of the retreat is meant to answer some of those questions and illustrate for the adults how to answer those questions themselves, depending on the situation. Participants will have the opportunity to re-write some of the scenes and have the actors perform the alternate scripts for them, thus exploring different possibilities for resolution. The whole two-day event is designed to initiate conversation, which is why it is preferable for families to attend all three parts.
