News» January 25, 2007:: ACT makes presentation to the Hagerstown Exchange ClubOn Thursday January 25, 2007, Authentic Community Theatre, Inc. made a presentation to the Hagerstown Exchange Club about the Summer Institute For The Arts as well as the general purpose of the arts in our community. Niki Perini, Artistic Director, presented the theories and results of the arts in education and in every-day lives of children. Ms. Perini gave advice to the audience on how to encourage children in instrumental music, drama, and general awareness of how children perceive these things when confronted with or attending arts events. The audience was the largest in attendance at a Hagerstown Exchange Club meeting in recent years. The HEC is a civic minded group that meets for lunch once a week to hear presentations from various non-profit groups, government agencies, or businesses and individuals on topics of interest. They also raise money to support their main charity, The Parent Child Center in Hagerstown. The National Exchange purpose is the prevention of child abuse. » January 9 2007:: ACT presents to the Washington County Board of EducationOn Tuesday January 9, 2007, Authentic Community Theatre, Inc. made a presentation to the Washington County Board of Education about our continuing partnership with WCBOE for the Summer Institute For The Arts. Niki Perini, ACT's Artistic Director, and JenniLynn Hughes, ACT Board member, along with Rob Hovermale and Ed Masood of the WCBOE, presented in front of the Board. This program, in its third year, has reached hundreds of people, young and old alike, in the greater Hagerstown, MD community. By using the arts for education, ACT has been successful in training these groups in the drama, music, movement and the theatre arts. ACT gave statistics on the number of children served, the number of audience members they reached and testimonies from several of the students that attended the presentation. The Board meeting, which was televised on local cable channels, was ACT's first formal presentation to the Board and was well received by all. » December 8, 2006:: ACT receives new grant from the Nora Roberts FoundationOn Friday December 8, 2006, Authentic Community Theatre, Inc. was awarded a $2,000 grant from the Nora Roberts Foundation for the fiscal year 2006-2007. Merrill Lynch sent the grant along with an award letter on behalf of the Foundation. Nora Roberts is a "New York's Best Seller" author who resides in Keedysville, MD and has sold over 180 million books worldwide. » November 14, 2006:: ACT receives grant from Washington County Arts CouncilOn Tuesday November 14, 2006, Authentic Community Theatre, Inc. was awarded a $2,000 grant from the Washington County Arts Council for the fiscal year 2006-2007. Paul Perini, ACT's Treasurer, was on hand to accept the check from WCAC Executive Director, Kevin Moriarty for $1,500 at WCAC's new location in the Towne Centre Building on West Washington Street. The balance of the grant to be forthcoming in early 2007. |
